Uganda imposes a tax on the use of social networking sites

New taxes imposed by the Ugandan government on social media to raise funds to help the country economically and avoid donor aid.
Ugandans have to pay $ 0.05 a day for social networking platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Watts.

Ugandan President Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, said social media were encouraging gossip, while parliament speaker Chris Aubur defended the law, which came into force on July 1, saying that with more Ugandans being used for social media, No matter how much the country's income.
"The government is trying not to rely on donor funding, it is just a redistribution tax as the government is looking for funds from those who are forced to fund projects," Aubur said.
"The tax is very small, people in Uganda will not find it very expensive," he said, while many Ugandans see taxes as a government campaign on freedom of expression.
